Gerbera

Gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii Bolus) is a hairy perennial herb belonging to the Asteraceae family and the genus Gerbera. It features a short rhizome enclosed by remnant leaf bases, with relatively thick fibrous roots. The leaves are basal, forming a rosette. Leaf blades are oblong to oblong-elliptic with a short-pointed or slightly blunt apex; petioles bear coarse longitudinal ridges and are somewhat hairy. The scape is solitary or rarely clustered, lacking bracteal leaves, with densest hair at the apex. A solitary capitulum (flower head) terminates the scape. The involucre is campanulate (bell-shaped); the receptacle is flat, naked, and honeycombed. The corolla tube is short; anthers possess long-pointed tails. Achenes (fruits) are cylindrical, densely covered with white pubescence. The pappus is slightly coarse, appearing dirty white when fresh and light brown when dry, with united bases.
